Police say speed and alcohol were factors in a Monday evening motorcycle accident in Etna.
Ian Holmwood, 25, of Etna broke his leg and suffered other injuries, when he apparently lost control of his 1988 Honda motorcycle on Route 2 between Bardon Hill Road and Palmer Road, according to Deputy James Kennedy of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.
The motorcycle rolled several times and Holmwood, who was not wearing a helmet, landed in a roadside ditch while the Honda slid another 50 feet along the pavement, Kennedy said. The accident happened shortly after 7 p.m. No other vehicles were involved.
Kennedy said Holmwood is a habitual offender whose driver’s license had been revoked. His motorcycle was unregistered, uninsured and not inspected. He said Holmwood would be charged with multiple offenses, including operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
Holmwood suffered a compound leg fracture, abrasions and possible internal injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where at 9:30 p.m. a supervisor said he was still being evaluated. (Meg Haskell, BDN)
