ACADIA NATIONAL PARK – A Hancock man was hurt Saturday when he was thrown from his motorcycle while driving down from the summit of Cadillac Mountain, according to a park ranger.

Joshua Trundy, 22, was riding with a group of motorcyclists when he lost control of his motorcycle around 8:45 p.m., Ranger Richard Rechholtz said Monday. Trundy, who was wearing a helmet, struck a roadside granite coping stone with the helmet in the accident, the ranger said.

The impact fractured a couple of vertebrae in Trundy’s spine, Rechholtz said. Trundy was taken by ambulance to Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor and then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, the ranger said.

According to a spokeswoman at EMMC, Trundy was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon.

Rechholtz said he was not the investigating officer in the accident and was not sure what caused the accident or whether any charges might result from the investigation.
