Evidence in Bangor fire sent to lab for analysis

BANGOR – Evidence collected from a Second Street apartment building that was extensively damaged by fire Sunday afternoon has been sent to a laboratory to be analyzed, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Kenison said Tuesday. Officials say the fire likely was arson.

Among the pieces of evidence is a bottle that may have been used to create the Moltov cocktail-type incendiary device that witnesses told police a man threw against the side of the building in an alley where several mattresses lay in a pile.

The fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. Sunday and spread from an alley next to the 11-unit apartment building at 40 Second St. into the building.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are following up on some leads, Kenison said.
