Healey, Gagnon pitch John Bapst past Lynx

BANGOR – Aaron Healey and Jon Gagnon combined on a four-hitter and Gagnon had a run-scoring double as John Bapst of Bangor beat Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln in a mutual baseball opener 3-1 at Mansfield Stadium.

Healey hurled 6 1/3 innings of four-hit, one-run (unearned) ball with seven strikeouts and no walks before Gagnon struck out the final two hitters.

John Bapst scored a first inning run without the benefit of a hit and added two in the third as Kyle Gallant singled, Gagnon doubled him home and Charlie Merritt singled home Gagnon.

Gallant and Merritt had two singles apiece while Josh Murchison had an RBI single for the Lynx and Peter Coggins and Jason Nesin combined on a six-hitter.

At Blue Hill, Nate Hines hit a three-run homer with no one out in the bottom of the 11th inning to rally George Stevens Academy to a season-opening victory.

Bucksport’s Cam Wentworth had hit a two-run single to highlight a three-run rally in the top of the inning that gave the Golden Bucks a 10-7 lead.

Peter Dickinson led off the GSA 11th with a single and then scored on a double by Lucas Marks. Josh Astbury then singled before Hines launched a deep home run to left field.

Hines also had two doubles and finished with four RBIs for the Eagles. Marks doubled and singled, while Dickinson and Astbury each singled twice.

Steve Klenowski hit a two-run homer and a single for Bucksport, while Tyler French doubled and singled with two RBIs and Wentworth and Cam Wadleigh each singled twice with two RBIs.

At Hermon, Billy Fern and Chris Gridley singled and drove in a pair of runs apiece to propel Mount Desert Island to victory over Hermon.

Brad McKluskey had two singles and drove in a run for Hermon.

Ellsworth 2, Central 1

At Ellsworth, Andrew Hodge hit two singles including one in the sixth inning to drive in the game-winning run as Ellsworth topped Central of Corinth.

Pat Kelley pitched seven innings for the Eagles, allowing one run on six hits with 11 strikeouts.

Brad Folmer had an RBI single in the third for Ellsworth.

Brenden Wilson doubled and singled for Central while Jacob Speed had two singles.

At Old Town, Dana Leland and Nick Standley combined on a three-hitter as the Coyotes opened up the season with a win over the Red Riots.

Standley hit a single and drove in three runs while Jason Smith had two singles and scored two runs for Old Town.

Brandon LeVasseur had a double for Orono.

At Bangor, Autumn St. John drove in the game-winning run on a fielders choice in the bottom of the tenth inning to lift John Bapst past Mattanawcook of Lincoln.

Laura Jordan hit a double, moved to third on a passed ball and later scored the winning run.

Jordan and Danielle Richard teamed up to toss a no-hitter but Mattanawcook Academy scored three runs in the seventh inning on errors.

Whitney Sinclair posted two singles while Sheila Toomey had a single and an RBI for the Crusaders.

At Blue Hill, Emily Lenore hit a two-run home run and two singles to lead the Golden Bucks past George Stevens Academy.

Winning pitcher Keely Sullivan scattered six hits while striking out 18 and walking five.

Jessica Keith hit a solo home run and a single for GSA, while Alida Peake doubled and singled for the Eagles, who stranded 12 baserunners.

Lydia Clapp also pitched a six-hitter with seven strikeouts and six walks.

At Hermon, Lily Barry hit a double and drove in five runs as Hermon topped Mount Desert Island.

Debbie Colpitts and Jessie Devou combined to allow one run on two hits with nine strikeouts.

Jasmine Veilleux doubled and singled with two RBIs while Ally Wharton had a double and two RBIs. Colpitts added a double and Jamie Beers had two singles for the Hawks.

MacKenzie Curtis and Emma Damon each singled for MDI.

At Ellsworth, Ashley Smith pitched a complete game allowing two runs on two hits with 11 strikeouts to lead Ellsworth by Central of Corinth.

Lily Cooper paced Ellsworth with a home run, a double a single and three RBIs. Jen Richter hit three singles with an RBI while Sabrina Jellison doubled and singled with an RBI.

Alix Rudzinski hit an RBI single for Central.
