Santerre driver forfeits win for rules infraction

Peyton Sellers, who drives for the Andy Santerre Motorsports team owned by Cherryfield’s Santerre, was forced to forfeit his season-opening win in the NASCAR Camping World (formerly Busch) East series due to a shock absorber rules infraction at Greenville Pickens Speedway (S.C.).

He will receive 30th-place (last) points, according to an announcement on the Eastseries.com Web site.

ASM became the first team in NASCAR East Series history to lose a win for an infraction.

His ASM teammate, Austin Dillon, was elevated from second to first.

Sellers’ crew chief, brother H.C. Sellers, was banned from the next three series races.

In the announcement, Santerre said, “Needless to say we are shocked and disappointed. We are being made an example. We admit there was a rules infraction, it was a shock to us as much as it was unintentional and unknown prior to the postrace inspection.

“We conceded that, and we worked with NASCAR to make sure it was not found in any other shocks or on the second ASM car. It was not. We understood there would be ramifications, but to go against past precedent and take the win away is disappointing.”
