Sargent no-hits UMPI

BANGOR – Nicole Sargent pitched a no-hitter to lead Husson College by the University of Maine-Presque Isle 8-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday.

The Eagles completed the sweep with a 7-4 win in the second game.

In the first game, Shawna Bell tallied a triple, two singles and three RBIs to spark Husson. Cassie Berry registered a double and three singles while Dorothy Cameron added two singles.

Sargent posted five strikeouts and six walks.

In the second game, Megan Bradstreet posted three singles and drove in four runs for the Eagles. Megan Richard added two singles and two RBIs while Berry added a pair of singles.

Erica Davis registered a double and two singles for the Owls. Brittany Humphrey had a double, a single and two RBIs while Danielle Humphrey notched a double, a single and one RBI.

Huskies, Plymouth State split

At Gorham, Stacey Stuart hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 3-1 extra-inning win over Plymouth State University in the second game of a doubleheader.

Plymouth State won the first game 6-5.

In the first game, Danielle Normand led Plymouth State with two hits and an RBI.

Sabrina Sevigny hit a three-run home run for the Huskies. Heather Gilman had two doubles while Stuart had a hit and an RBI.

In the second game, Anita Dixon tallied three hits for Southern Maine while Sevigny added two hits and an RBI.

UNE, Bowdoin split

At Biddeford, Bowdoin College overcame a 4-0 deficit for a 7-4 win that salvaged a split of its doubleheader with the University of New England.

UNE won the opener 3-2.

In the first game, UNE’s Sarah Hamel hit a two-out, opposite-field RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to drive home the winning run.

In the second game, Bowdoin broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh, with Kate Chin hitting an RBI single to cap off the rally.

At Waterville, Mallorie Blakney tripled home a pair of runs and Brittany Oxley doubled home a run and singled twice as Thomas beat the University of Maine-Farmington to earn a split of their North Atlantic Conference doubleheader.

Both teams were unbeaten in conference play entering the twinbill. Thomas is now 13-1 in NAC play while UMF is 9-1.

Blakney also singled in the nightcap while UMF received a double and a single from Sarah Defilipp.

In the opener, Defilipp pitched the shutout, striking out five and walking one.

McKell Barnes doubled for the winners while Jen Higgins singled twice for Thomas and Oxley doubled.

St. Joe’s 10, Albertus Magnus 6

At Standish, Luke Enman tripled and singled and drove in three runs and Ben Grant-Roy homered and knocked in two runs as Saint Joseph’s beat Albertus Magnus (Conn.) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference preliminary-round game.

Saint Joseph’s will take on No. 1 seed Suffolk University on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Pat Moran picked up the win with seven innings of nine-hit, three-run ball (two earned). He struck out seven and walked two.

Ian Lee had two hits and two RBIs for the winners and Dustin Spiller had two hits.

Kyle Calechman, Chris Noske and Erik Suraci (two RBIs) had three hits apiece for Albertus Magnus.

Eddie Skeffington doubled and singled while Ryan Gaffney and Ryan Pike added two singles apiece for the Huskies.

Brian Mahoney doubled and singled and Rob Patton had two singles for Bates.
