Allen leads Limestone to opening win

BANGOR – Mike Allen had a pair of RBI doubles and Sam Davidson an RBI double as Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics scored nine runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to rally for a 12-8 high school baseball win over Vinalhaven at Mansfield Stadium Wednesday morning.

Matt Enman had a couple of RBI singles for the Eagles.

Virgil Cray had an RBI triple while Willard Webster, Nathan Hopkins and Andrew Guptill each had an RBI single for Vinalhaven.

At Brewer, Eric White pitched a three-hit shutout and aided his own cause with two singles and three RBIs as Brewer rolled past Mt. Blue of Farmington.

Chase Daniels doubled and tripled to knock in two runs while Mike Kotredes singled twice and drove in a pair. Jon Thoms hit an RBI triple and Billy Bissell added a double and three RBIs for the Witches.

Joe Gilbert posted a double for Mt. Blue.

Hampden 6, Messalonskee 2

At Hampden, Patrick Stevens slapped a two-run double to highlight a four-run first inning for the Broncos as they toppled Messalonskee of Oakland.

Shawn Smith contributed an RBI single while Nolan Turner singled twice and scored two runs for Hampden Academy.

Isaac Guerrette had an RBI double and Joe Dumont an RBI single for the Eagles.

At Deer Isle, Nate Adams hit a two-run home run, an RBI single and did not allow a run in three innings of pitching to lead Searsport past Deer Isle-Stonington.

Tom Cameron hit two singles, a double and drove in two runs for Searsport. Evan Kingsbury hit an RBI double and an RBI single while Rocky Faunce added two singles and an RBI.

Oliver Lawson and Ethan Pinkham each singled for the Mariners.

At Bangor, Amy Wadleigh and Sam Besse combined on a five-inning no-hitter as Bangor cruised past Lawrence of Fairfield.

Wadleigh went the first two frames, striking out three while Besse fanned four in the final three innings.

Erica Tweedie smacked a two-run single and Amy Hackett hit an RBI double as the Rams plated 11 runs in the bottom of the first. Jeri Cosgrove chipped in with an RBI single later in the game.

At Brewer, the Witches scored 10 first inning runs en route to the comfortable win over the Cougars of Farmington.

Sarah Risser singled and tripled to knock in two runs while Meghan McLain had a double and single while plating three runs for Brewer. Maria Liberatore contributed two singles and an RBI.

Kaitlyn Bartlett hit a solo home run for Mt. Blue.

At Hampden, Lacey Littlefield tossed a seven-inning one-hitter with 14 strikeouts to lead Hampden to victory over Messalonskee of Oakland.

Littlefield posted three singles and an RBI for the Broncos. Michelle Wells had two singles while Morgan Doyon added an RBI single for Hampden.

Julianna Sekete singled for Messalonskee.

At Deer Isle, Erica Hutchins smacked a two-run single to highlight a five-run first inning as Deer Isle-Stonington topped Searsport.

Audra Eaton and Abby Grindle hit two singles apiece for the Mariners. Heidi Brewer added a double and an RBI.

Paige Bradshaw doubled and singled with three RBIs while Megan Higgins knocked an RBI single for Searsport.
