Jewelry, cash, a laptop computer and collectible coins worth $3,000 were stolen from two Bangor homes Tuesday and Wednesday in separate burglary incidents.

During the day Tuesday, a burglar broke a porch window at 228 Palm St., entered the home and stole the coins and computer, according to Bangor police. A checkbook and credit card also were taken.

Between 9 and 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, a burglar cut a screen and then broke a window with a rock to gain entrance into a home at 500 Mount Hope Ave. After coming up empty at the home’s medicine cabinet, the burglar got away with $100 and some jewelry, according to reports. (Toni-Lynn Robbins, BDN)

Lightning and a truck that got caught on utility wires were to blame for two separate power outages Wednesday evening in northern Penobscot County.

A lightning strike left about 1,300 Bangor Hydro-Electro Co. customers without power in the Mattawamkeag and Medway area for about an hour, according to a company press release issued at 6:55 p.m.

The other outage, affecting customers in the areas of Chester, Woodville, Mattawamkeag and Winn, was caused by a truck that got caught and pulled wires down onto Route 116 in Chester. The accident broke three utility poles, which Bangor Hydro crews were replacing just before 8:30 p.m., the press release said. Power was expected to be restored by 10 p.m. Wednesday.
