Donation honors bank leader Gift for YWCA Endowment Fund tribute to LaJune S. Means

BANGOR – Camden National Bank has presented a $500 gift in memory of LaJune S. Means to the Young Women’s Christian Association Endowment Fund. The presentation took place in the board room named in honor of Means in Camden National Bank’s building on Exchange Street.

Means was chairwoman of a Camden National predecessor, United Bank, and was instrumental in the design of the bank’s Exchange Street building.

She was a member of and friend to the Bangor-Brewer YWCA for more than 30 years. She served as president of the board of directors 1974-1976 and helped lead the YWCA’s capital campaigns in 1972 and 1987.

She and her husband, David, bought the Discovery House at 27 Second St. to help the YWCA better meet the child care needs of working families. Thousands of adults, families and children benefited from her philanthropic wisdom and insight.
