ANNAPOLIS, Md. -The Maine Maritime Academy varsity sailing team captured the title at the Intrepid Regatta after winning a four-way tiebreaker with SUNY (State University of New York) New York Maritime, U.S. Merchant Marine and the U.S. Naval Academy.

The tie was broken first by determining which among the top four had more wins against the rest of the top four. MMA and SUNY each had two while the other two each had one win. Since MMA beat SUNY, the Mariners won.

MMA’s team members are Willy Leathers, Jonathan Kovach, T.J. Scott, Graham Fitch and operations manager Tim Leach.

U.S. Naval Academy coach John Tihansky said the MMA Mariners, which finished the round with nine wins and two losses, is going to be the next powerhouse in offshore sailing in the east and west.
