Old Town gets sweep of Vikings

OLD TOWN – Sarah Wilcox hit a two-run homer and a double and scored four runs as the Coyotes completed a doubleheader softball sweep of Caribou with a 15-3 victory in the second game Thursday.

Old Town also won the first game 15-3 in five innings to earn its first victories since the 2005 season.

In the first game, Jenna Winegardner hit two singles and had four RBIs for the Coyotes, while Whitney Buck doubled and singled with two RBIs.

Kristen Espling doubled for Caribou.

In the second game, Hannah Morin added a triple, two singles and three RBIs for Old Town, while Amy Cossar singled twice with three RBIs.

Espling doubled and singled for Caribou, while Ashley Doucette doubled.

At East Sullivan, Ashley Smith allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out nine to lead Ellsworth to the shutout win over Sumner.

Sabrina Jellison hit an RBI single and scored in the fifth inning for the Eagles and Smith singled.

Sumner’s Tashia Daley allowed one earned run on two hits and five walks while recording 12 strikeouts. Morgan Traxler and Brenn Alexander singled.

George Stevens 27, MDI 18

At Bar Harbor, Lexi Wessel hit a triple, single and two home runs, including a grand slam, to drive in eight runs and lead George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill past Mount Desert Island.

Sabrina Vivian had three singles and a double and scored six runs for the Eagles. Alida Peake had three singles and three runs and Lydia Clapp added a triple and two singles.

Megan Simason singled twice and hit a grand slam in the third inning to pace the Trojans. Ariel York had three singles and four RBIs and Whitney Walls added three singles and two runs scored.

At Corinth, Sheila Toomey hit two singles and drove in a run to help lift John Bapst of Bangor over Central.

Kara Voisine had two singles and an RBI for the Crusaders. Kristie Collins singled twice.

At Brewer, Chelsea Paul’s RBI single with two outs and the bases loaded, followed by Chloe Paul’s two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Orono Red Riots the come-from-behind victory.

Chelsea Paul had a double, single and two RBIs for the Riots. Jill Tuell had a triple, a single and two RBIs.

Paige Curtis had a triple, double and two RBIs for the Minutemen of Millinocket. Chloe Paul singled twice.

At East Sullivan, Pat Kelley’s three-run triple highlighted a seven-run rally in the second inning that propelled the Eagles to victory.

Ross Saunders added a two-run double during an eight-run uprising in the top of the seventh, and Garrett Kaspala chipped in with two singles.

Steve Brenton paced Sumner with a double, single and RBI, while Matt Boyle and Joe Simmons each doubled.

At Orono, Brandon LeVasseur had a double, a single, and four RBIs to lead the Orono Red Riots by Stearns of Millinocket.

Corey Barnett hit a two-run home run for the Minutemen.

At Corinth, John Bapst of Bangor eliminated a 12-2 deficit after two innings to defeat Central.

Andrew Casey doubled and singled with three RBIs for the Crusaders. Casey Hull and Charlie Merritt both had a double and a single with two RBIs. Kyle Gallant added two singles and two RBIs.

Jake Speed hit a grand slam in the second inning for Central. Jon Daniel added a triple and four RBIs and Josh Collins tripled and singled to drive in a run. Brenden Wilson had two singles and an RBI.

Ethan Woodman tripled and singled with two RBIs to lead Dexter. C.J. Giles and Devon Grant both had RBI singles and A.J. McGowan recorded 10 strikeouts.
