One of the most popular performers who calls Maine home will entertain during the Emmaus Homeless Shelter 2008 Spring Fest Concert from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Acadia Christian School, 171 Bar Harbor Road, Trenton.

Singer, songwriter Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary is the featured performer at this event that benefits the shelter.

Sister Lucille MacDonald says tickets are $30 for singles, $50 for couples, and are available at the shelter at the corner of Main and Water streets or at the Grasshopper Shop on Main Street, both in Ellsworth.

The Live and Silent Auction features items from local businesses, she added.

“As in past years, we will display another wonderful selection of delicious hot and cold dishes, and desserts, for all to sample.”

Betsy Garrold invites the public to the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association-El Salvador Sistering Project’s Empty Bowl Supper at 6 p.m. today, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 37 Miller St., Belfast.

Garrold is coordinating the fundraiser. She says that for a $10 donation, you will receive a beautiful handmade bowl created by a local Maine pottery artist and filled with delicious soup provided by Cleonice Restaurant of Ellsworth, along with locally made bread and dessert.

A brief educational presentation about the work of the project and musical entertainment by the Tough Cats are all part of the evening event.

A Beans and Casseroles Supper to benefit the Rev. David Shaw Cancer Relief Fund is 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at St. Matthew’s Church, Western Avenue, Hampden.

The donation is $5 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under, $20 for a family of four or more.

Victoria Blanchette of Bangor e-mailed to thank every person and every organization who helped with the planning and planting of the pink tulip garden at Broadway and Center Street in Bangor, and she reminds passers-by to start looking for the flowers to bloom any day.

The project, which raises $1 for each bulb planted, collected $745 for the Maine Cancer Foundation, Blanchette wrote.

“I have been going out and talking to the bulbs and sprouts,” she wrote, “urging them on and keeping the area free of trash.” She expects the MCF bloom date in early May.
