GRAY – While there are concerns about river flooding in northern Maine, there’s a different concern in southern Maine: forest fires.
Forest rangers say the fire danger is growing because of a stretch of dry weather coupled with plenty of fuel in the form of branches, twigs and leaves.
Art Lavoie of the Maine Forest Service said Friday there have been twice as many fires compared to this time last year. More than 100 fires have been reported.
