UMF scores 32 runs to gain twinbill sweep

JOHNSON, Vt. – The University of Maine at Farmington scored 13 runs in the second inning to defeat Johnson State College 19-3 in the first game before completing a sweep of their softball doubleheader with a 13-4 win in the nightcap.

In the first game, Breanna Conners hit a triple and two singles and knocked in two runs for UM-Farmington. McKell Barnes added a double and a single with three runs scored. Emily Coye doubled and singled with two RBIs.

Emily Sullivan led Johnson State with a single and two RBIs.

In the second game, UM-Farmington’s Barnes homered with two RBIs and Lauren Overlook tripled. Casandra Dyer had a double and two RBIs.

Ashley Allegrini drove in two runs and hit a double for Johnson State.

At Lewiston, Cara Hovhanessian hit a double and two singles and knocked in four runs to lift the Jumbos over the Bobcats.

Izzie Santone and Kim Miner combined for the five-inning shutout for Tufts, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out four.

Alex Bethel and Liz Stahler singled for Bates.

Saint Joseph’s 7, Suffolk 1

At Quincy, Mass., Saint Joseph’s College scored seven runs in the sixth inning and defeated Suffolk University Thursday in the quarterfinal round of the GNAC playoffs.

Luke Enman hit three singles to lead the Monks. Todd Keneborus doubled and singled with an RBI and Wade Oliver had two singles sand two RBIs.

Saint Joseph’s Andrew Keirstead allowed one run on nine hits and three walks while striking out four in the complete game outing.

Nick Marinho and Robert Barrett doubled for Suffolk.

Southern Maine 8, Endicott 6

At Beverly, Mass., University of Southern Maine erased a six-run deficit to beat Endicott College Thursday.

Anthony D’Alfonso homered and singled with three RBIs for the Huskies. Chris Burleson and Ryan Pike also hit home runs.

Endicott’s Luis Uribe hit a home run and a single while driving in two runs.

Castleton 25, UM-Presque Isle 4

At Castleton, Vt., Ted Mills singled four times, drove in six runs and scored four runs as Castleton State College defeated the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Kevin McPeek and Chris Ragis each scored four runs for Castleton.

Chuck Reece doubled and drove in two runs the UM-Presque Isle and Jeff Ramsdell also doubled with an RBI.

Kyle McKay hit a sixth inning grand slam to pace Colby.

Lyndon State sweeps UMF

At Lyndonville, Vt., Rob Malloy singled four times and scored three runs as Lyndon State College defeated University of Maine at Farmington 12-6 in the nightcap. The Hornets also won the first game 7-5.

In the first game, Ben Clark had two singles and three RBIs for Lyndon State. Jason Ryan had a double and a single with an RBI.

Corey Provencher singled and drove in two runs for UM-Farmington. Kyle Shea, Andrew Dean and Mike Cummons each had two singles.

In the second game, Adrian Guyer had two singles and two runs scored for the Hornets. Ryan drove in two runs and Jordan Royer singled twice.

Phineas Peake hit four singles and scored twice for the Beavers and Tyler Hanson added two singles.
