BANGOR – A 33-year-old Bangor man was arrested Sunday morning for allegedly stabbing his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend in the stomach on Saturday night.
David Archer of Bangor was arrested at 8:29 a.m. at Acadia Hospital and charged with violation of bail and elevated aggravated assault, according to a report released by Bangor police on Sunday.
At 8:50 p.m. the night before, police were called to 8 Hudson St. for a reported stabbing. There they found a 22-year-old woman on the couch with abdominal stab wounds. A friend was applying first aid to her injuries, according to the report.
Neither Archer nor the victim lived in the home where the victim was found, according to police.
The woman identified Archer as her assailant and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center, police said. After overnight surgery she was listed in stable condition on Sunday. Her name was not released, but in the report police said she was Archer’s ex-girlfriend.
Police would not say why Archer was at Acadia Hospital at the time of his arrest. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.
On Sunday evening, several drops of blood remained on the small porch at 8 Hudson St. Timothy Pendleton, a resident of the home, identified himself as the friend who assisted the victim. Pendleton told the Bangor Daily News that he and his wife, Jessica, were spending the evening at home with the woman when Archer appeared. For almost an hour, Archer pleaded with the woman to speak with him and then left the home at around 8:30 p.m., Pendleton said.
“He was jealous,” Pendleton said. “She had broken up with him about two days ago.”
A few minutes after Archer left, Jessica Pendleton and her friend stepped outside to take a walk. Archer appeared on a small patch of grass beside the porch and stabbed the woman twice, Timothy Pendleton said. Pendleton heard his wife screaming, ran outside and attempted to chase Archer, but was unable to catch up with him. Pendleton then carried the woman inside, called police and applied pressure to her wounds, he said.
No one else was home at the time of the incident, Pendleton said.
Doctors said the woman was stabbed twice, once below the ribcage and once in the liver, Pendleton said.
