Pavento leads unbeaten Red Riots past Patriots

ORONO – Sara Pavento scattered six hits while striking out 12 and walking only two to help the Orono softball team beat the Penquis Patriots 5-2 on Monday and improve to 4-0.

Chelsea Paul singled twice and drove in a run for the Red Riots and Sarah Thibeault chipped in with a two-out, two-run single in the first inning.

Erica Lyford singled three times and had an RBI for Penquis of Milo.

At Howland, Casey McCloskey pitched a two-hitter, striking out 14, and sparked the offense with a game-winning triple in the seventh for the Penobscot Valley Howlers.

Lyndsey Drost added two singles for the winners and McCloskey also singled twice.

Laney Herring hit a two run triple and an RBI single for the Shiretowners.

At Bangor, Jillian French allowed one run on one hit while striking out nine and walking only two as the Patriots improved to 4-0.

Becca Smith doubled and scored two runs while Libby Long had an RBI single and a run scored for Bangor Christian.

Audra Eaton slapped an RBI single for Deer Isle-Stonington.

At Bangor, Sadie Redmon hit two singles, drove in two runs and scored two runs to lift Bangor over Mt. Blue of Farmington.

Eliza Estabrook and Sam Besse hit RBI singles for the Rams.

Kaitlyn Bartlett hit an RBI single to lead the Cougars.

At Blue Hill, Lydia Clapp smacked an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to propel the George Stevens Academy Eagles to victory.

Stearns of Millinocket had scored three times in the top of the inning to tie the score at 17.

Lexi Wessell singled three times and drove in six runs for the Eagles.

Paige Curtis led the Minutemen with a two-run homer while Becca Leavitt added two singles.

At Searsport, Michelle Chapman allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out 12 to lead Dexter past Searsport.

Alyssa Crane singled three times and drove in a run to pace Dexter. Sam Conway hit an RBI triple and a single. Becky Johnson had an RBI double and Eva Wing tripled.

Kylie Jettinghoff, Jana Frances-Mezger and Megan Higgins singled for Searsport. Emma Clark scored the run.

At Hampden, Megan McLain’s two-run double spearheaded a three-run seventh and Amanda Ryan and Mel Judkins combined on a three-hitter as unbeaten Brewer earned its fourth win.

Ryan struck out four in four innings of work while Judkins fanned six in the final three.

Leah Jackson chipped in an RBI single while Jaimee Knowles doubled and singled for the Witches.

Ashley Gott slapped an RBI double in the seventh and singled for Hampden Academy while Brittany Luetjen singled.

At Dover-Foxcroft Saturday, Ryan Olmstead slapped an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Ponies a 7-6 victory in the opener of a doubleheader. Presque Isle won the nightcap 3-2.

In the first game, Ian Champeon had two singles and an RBI and Jamie Nason two doubles, a single and RBI for the Ponies.

Bennett Cassidy led the Wildcats with three singles, a double and RBI while Adam Kingsbury had two singles and an RBI and Ethan Braley three singles and an RBI.

In the second game, Cassidy doubled and singled as Presque Isle earned a split.

Dillon Kingsbury and Braley each singled for the winners; Nason had an RBI single and Wade Witham a double for the Ponies.

At Houlton, Joe Gilley hit a solo home run and a single and scored four runs to lift Penobscot Valley over Houlton.

Nevin Jipson hit a three-run homer in the first inning for the Howlers and Grant Sherman added two singles. Aaron Saucier and Dylan Worster combined for 12 strikeouts.

Matt Boubier and Levi Prosser each singled twice for Houlton.

Josh Astbury scored the winning run in the first inning on wild pitch for the Eagles and Nick Saunders singled to drive in an insurance run.

Justin Pelkey allowed two runs on one hit and four walks while striking out eight for Stearns of Millinocket. Jason LeVasseur doubled and Pelkey hit a single.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Shane Walton hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom on the seventh inning to drive in Chad Kelley and lead Bangor past Mt. Blue of Farmington.

Bangor’s Ryan Larochelle tied it at 4-4 in the seventh when he drove in Jimmy Burns on a bases-loaded walk. John Cox hit a solo home run in the second inning and Kyle Vanidestine singled twice.

Leo Pullo hit a two-run single in the second inning for Mt. Blue.

Ethan Woodman had a double for the Tigers.

At Guilford, Matt Ward’s single with no outs scored Richie Tompkins from third with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the Piscataquis Pirates of Guilford.

For the Pirates, Tompkins and Ward led the way with three singles each. Yaal Kand added two singles.

Brandon Crocker doubled and singled for the Pandas. A.J. Harris and Dean McDonald each singled twice.

Jon Johnson had a double, two singles and an RBI to pace the Patriots. Chris Potter added an RBI single.
