Big School (Classes A-B)

SHAWN SMITH

Smith, a junior on the Hampden Academy baseball team, pitched a pair of complete-game victories for the Broncos in his first two starts of the spring. He opened the season with a six-hitter in a 6-2 win over Mt.Blue of Farmington, then hurled a two-hit shutout in a 6-0 victory over Lawrence of Fairfield.

Small School (Classes C-D)

DAKOTA SLEEPER

Sleeper, a sophomore on the Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook baseball team, opened his season with a complete-game pitching victory. The righthander struck out 16 batters and allowed only two hits as the Warriors edged Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics 3-2.

GIRLS

Big School (Classes A-B)

VICKY OVERLOCK

A freshman pitcher on the Belfast softball team, Overlock got her high school career off to a strong start with a no-hitter in the Lions’ season opener against Rockland Monday. Overlock walked only three while striking out four in Belfast’s 13-0 triumph.

Small School (Classes C-D)

JAMIE PELLETIER

The Fort Kent Community High School sprinter won the 100- and 200-meter dashes as the Warriors kicked off their spring track and field season at a multi-team meet at Brewer last Friday. Pelletier clocked a 13.22 in the 100, a 27.47 in the 200 and later ran a 67-second split on Fort Kent’s 4×400-meter relay.
