River City Harmonizers, an area women’s barbershop chorus, will host a very special concert to help one of its members.
Vicky Rhodes was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, explained fellow Harmonizer Lana Leighton.
The Harmonizers will be joined by other singers in hosting a benefit concert for Rhodes at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Orland Consolidated School on School House Road.
Donations will be accepted at the door.
Leighton explained that the women’s group will be joined by The Maine-ly Music Chorus, a Bangor area men’s barbershop group, “and associated quartets” for this benefit, which also offers “a lap quilt and quilt rack, and several other items” that will be raffled during the concert.
In addition, you can participate in a 50-50 raffle – all to help these women help their friend and fellow singer through this difficult time.
Members of Bucksport High School student council are sponsoring a spaghetti feed, with sittings at 5 and 6 p.m. Friday, May 2, at the high school, to benefit Lance and Kim Sanborn.
Lance Sanborn, a Bucksport firefighter-paramedic, is recovering from injuries he suffered in an automobile accident in February.
Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for children 3-12.

Naomi Allen reports proceeds from the United Methodist Church of Stillwater’s yard sale benefit “church operations and the missions we support.”
That sale will be 8 a.m.-noon, Saturday, May 3, at the church, 744 Stillwater Ave.
Phyllis Wardwell wrote that the Duck Cove Community Club of Bucksport annual yard and bake sale will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Little Yellow Schoolhouse on Route 46, Bucksport.
Proceeds will benefit the upkeep of this building listed on the National Register of Historic Places “and other organizations and community interests around town,” Wardwell explained.

Sara Yasner reminds those who need to participate, and all volunteers, that the ninth annual Camp Bangor Citywide Cleanup will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the following Bangor locations: Fairmont, Hayford, Chapin, Broadway, Little City and Stillwater parks; Doughty, Mary Snow, Fruit Street and Downeast schools; and Essex, Prentice and Brown woods.
After the cleanup, all volunteers are invited to a barbecue at 11:30 a.m. at Stillwater Park on Howard Street.
Sponsored by United Way of Eastern Maine, the city of Bangor and Keep Bangor Beautiful, participation helps Camp Bangor scholarship recipients to meet their community-service requirement, Yasner wrote.

Susan Darling reports that the puppet ministry of Corinth United Methodist Church, youngsters 5-13 who are directed by Patti Rollins and Chrissy Bean, will perform at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the church, 17 Main St.
Proceeds will benefit Manna Ministries of Bangor.
The puppets, also known as PB&J, for Puppets Believing in Jesus, will also perform at the 10:30 a.m. service, Sunday, May 4, at the church, and “all are invited to attend,” Darling wrote.

You are invited to the Caribou Choral Society annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Caribou Performing Arts Center.
