Wells knocks in winner vs. Rams

HAMPDEN – Michelle Wells plated the game-winning run with an RBI fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth as Hampden Academy tripped Bangor 1-0 in high school softball action Wednesday.

Kasey Belcher led off the inning with a single for the Broncos, advanced to third on Lacey Littlefield’s single, then scored on Wells’ infield grounder.

Littlefield held the Rams to four hits while striking out 14 and walking three for the Broncos.

Sam Bedore was just as solid for Bangor, surrendering just the two hits while striking out 12 and walking only one. Kim Jordan, Erin Dean, Eliza Estabrook and Erica Tweedie all singled.

At Bucksport, Deni Nicastro scattered five hits and singled twice to pace Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln to victory.

Brianna Hanscom rapped two triples and a single to drive in two runs for the Lynx, while Kristy Burleigh posted two singles.

Meagan Harriman led Bucksport with two singles (RBI).

At Lee, Eva Wing’s inside-the-park grand slam with one out in the seventh inning rallied the Dexter Tigers over Lee Academy.

Michelle Chapman had 10 strikeouts with two walks to earn the victory. Olivia Gardner singled twice, and Raven Patterson added an RBI double.

Kellsey Grass had a double, two singles and three RBIs for the Pandas. Heidi Sappier had a double, a single, and two RBIs while Aarika Ritchie added an RBI triple.

At Brewer, Emily Fraser led the Brewer Witches with three singles and two RBIs.

Dominique Defilipp and Leah Jackson each singled twice for the Witches.

Paige Dickee, Joann Cloukey and Jamie O’Halloran each hit a single for the only hits by Lawrence of Fairfield.

At Old Town, Amy Singer hit a two-run home run and Whitney Leland had two singles and two RBIs as Old Town edged Central of Corinth.

Micayla Hovey doubled and singled for Old Town while Amy Cossar added an RBI single.

Kara Voisine tallied a single and two RBIs for Central while Sam Morin had an RBI single.

At Deer Isle, Anika Powers pitched a two-hitter, striking out six, and posted two singles with an RBI to lead the Mariners to victory.

Stormi Hardy hit a single with two RBIs for Deer Isle-Stonington, while Marissa Billings and Hannah Siebert each had a single and two RBIs.

Tricia Hobbs doubled for Schenck of East Millinocket.

Tasha Daley hit a double and drove in two runs while Kayla Higgins had a double and an RBI for Sumner.

Rebecca Leavitt posted two singles, a double and two RBIs for Stearns while Paige Curtis had an RBI single.

At Searsport, Olivia Quigley didn’t walk a batter and fanned five while allowing one run on six hits as Searsport dealt Bangor Christian its first loss.

Quigley contributed an RBI double while Kyle Jettinghoff doubled and scored a run and Jana Francis-Mezger singled and scored for the Vikes.

Becca Smith and Libbey Long had two singles apiece for the Patriots.

At Harrington, the Washington Academy Raiders of East Machias strung together back-to-back five-run rallies in the third and fourth innings en route to the win.

Kayla Wood had four singles and three RBIs and Irene Lewey a double and a single for the winners.

Andrea Perry knocked a two-run double for Narraguagus.

Ariel Knights hit two doubles and two singles while Courtney Cochran hit a triple, double and a pair of singles for the Dragons.

Angie Atari had an RBI single for Machias.

At Bar Harbor, Calvin Tweedie came on in relief of winning pitcher Peter Logue and struck out the only batter he faced with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, helping the Trojans hang on.

Tweedie also knocked in the eventual winning run with a two-out, RBI triple in the sixth and hit a solo home run. Josh Delaittre hit three singles with three RBIs and Bret Mitchell knocked a solo homer and singled.

Josh Boone had two singles and an RBI for Foxcroft Academy and Tony Gabarro doubled.

At Lee, Matt Gelzinis’ two-out, two-run single highlighted a four-run fifth inning that sparked the Tigers to victory.

Ethan Woodman scattered four hits with eight strikeouts, a walk and a hit batter, and helped his cause with three singles. A.J. McGowan added two singles and an RBI for Dexter.

Dean MacDonald doubled and Lee Cropley stroked an RBI single for Lee Academy.

At Searsport, Nate Adams and Tom Cameron combined on a complete game no-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks to lead Searsport by Bangor Christian.

Dustin Brassbridge hit two singles and drove in a run for Searsport. Nate Adams tallied two singles while Evan Kingsbury added an RBI single for the undefeated Vikings.

At Deer Isle, Eben Powers had a double, a single, and two RBIs, pitched four innings of one-hit ball while allowing one walk and getting seven strikeouts to lead the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners past Schenck of East Millinocket.

Ethan Pinkham had two singles and an RBI while Jon Lymburner added an RBI single for the Mariners.

Josh Brown’s single in the sixth broke up the Mariners’ no-hit bid.

Scott Kelley doubled twice, singled and scored for the Red Devils and Brendan Wilson knocked in a run with a single. Jon Daniel knocked three singles.

Evan Paradis had an RBI single and Dana Leland a fielders choice RBI for the Coyotes. Tyler Cates singled twice and scored.

At Brewer, Eric White knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Brewer past Lawrence of Fairfield.

White finished with two doubles and two singles for the Witches. Chase Daniels had two singles and two RBIs while Prentiss Swett had a single with two RBIs. Shun Sasaki posted an RBI single.

John Flynn had two singles and three RBIs to pace Lawrence. Jim Melcher had a double and two RBIs while Brock Lawrence had an RBI single.

Mike Farrell smacked a two-run homer for the Lynx.
