HAMPDEN – Michelle Wells plated the game-winning run with an RBI fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth as Hampden Academy tripped Bangor 1-0 in high school softball action Wednesday.

Kasey Belcher led off the inning with a single for the Broncos, advanced to third on Lacey Littlefield’s single, then scored on Wells’ infield grounder.

Littlefield held the Rams to four hits while striking out 14 and walking three for the Broncos.

Sam Bedore was just as solid for Bangor, surrendering just the two hits while striking out 12 and walking only one. Kim Jordan, Erin Dean, Eliza Estabrook and Erica Tweedie all singled.

At Bucksport, Deni Nicastro scattered five hits and singled twice to pace Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln to victory.

Brianna Hanscom rapped two triples and a single to drive in two runs for the Lynx, while Kristy Burleigh posted two singles.

Meagan Harriman led Bucksport with two singles (RBI).

At Lee, Eva Wing’s inside-the-park grand slam with one out in the seventh inning rallied the Dexter Tigers over Lee Academy.

Michelle Chapman had 10 strikeouts with two walks to earn the victory. Olivia Gardner singled twice, and Raven Patterson added an RBI double.

Kellsey Grass had a double, two singles and three RBIs for the Pandas. Heidi Sappier had a double, a single, and two RBIs while Aarika Ritchie added an RBI triple.

Quigley contributed an RBI double while Kyle Jettinghoff doubled and scored a run and Jana Francis-Mezger singled and scored for the Vikes.

Becca Smith and Libbey Long had two singles apiece for the Patriots.

At Bar Harbor, Calvin Tweedie came on in relief of winning pitcher Peter Logue and struck out the only batter he faced with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, helping the Trojans hang on.

Tweedie also knocked in the eventual winning run with a two-out, RBI triple in the sixth and hit a solo home run. Josh Delaittre hit three singles with three RBIs and Bret Mitchell knocked a solo homer and singled.

Josh Boone had two singles and an RBI for Foxcroft Academy and Tony Gabarro doubled.

Josh Brown’s single in the sixth broke up the Mariners’ no-hit bid.
