Houlton stops Presque Isle for second win

HOULTON – Courtney Putnam and Chelsi Murray hit two-run singles in a decisive nine-run second inning to lead the Houlton Shiretownwers to a 13-3 high school softball win over the Presque Isle Wildcats Friday.

Erika Lackey had a triple and two singles and drove in a run for Houlton. Lainey Herring doubled and singled and had an RBI. Winning pitcher Nikki Eastman and Murray had two singles and two RBIs apiece and Casey Faulkingham had a pair of singles and an RBI.

Allisen Young and Allison Donovan had two singles each for Presque Isle and Donovan had an RBI.

At Fort Fairfield, Whitney Flint pitched a one-hitter to lead the Hornets to victory.

Flint also had three singles, three RBIs and three runs scored, while Taylor Baker also had three singles and Mindy Chasse singled twice.

Maryl Shaw singled for Fort Fairfield.

Calais 7, Woodland 1

At Woodland, Macey Gillespie hit a double and a single and knocked in a run to help lift Calais over Woodland.

Tessa Clark, Toni Cole and Jen Foss each hit two singles and drove in a run for Calais.

Julia Nicholas hit an RBI double and a single to lead the Dragons. Cali Anthony added two singles.

At East Sullivan, Tashia Daley allowed two runs, none earned, on two hits and three walks while recorded 14 strikeouts to lift Sumner over Orono.

Julia Johnson hit a single and a two-run home run for the Tigers. Lona Sargent hit a solo home run in the first and Kayla Higgins doubled.

Chelsey Paul and Jody Keezer singled for Orono.

At Fort Fairfield, Tony Baker hit a double and two singles and recorded four RBIs as Ashland beat Fort Fairfield.

Lucas Belanger hit an RBI single for the Hornets and Henry Milligan scored three runs.

Josh Churchill led Fort Fairfield with two singles and an RBI. Pat Kinsey and Austin Bixler each hit RBI singles.

At Houlton, Landon York delivered a two-out sacrifice fly with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give the Shires the win.

Ben Austin had three singles and knocked in three runs for Houlton.

Matt Chase had a sacrifice fly and Dillon Kingsbury an RBI single for Presque Isle.

At Thomaston, Thursday, Dean McCrillis hit a three-run double in the fifth inning to help lead Mountain Valley of Rumford to victory over Georges Valley.

Cody McPherson hit a solo home run in the fifth for Mountain Valley. Cam Kaubris singled twice and McCrillis added a single.

Brandon Staples homered to lead Georges Valley. Larry Platt and Larson Platt both singled twice.

Anthony Cyr hit a two-run double in the seventh to tie it up for Orono. Kirk Francis and Brandon LeVasseur each singled twice and knocked in a run.

Mickey Manning paced Sumner with four singles and two RBIs. Joe Simmons added two singles and two RBIs.
