CHICOPEE, Mass. – Ethan Guerette hit three singles, scored two runs and knocked in a run as No. 4 Husson College upset No. 1 Castleton State College 5-3 in the opening round of the North Atlantic Conference baseball tourney Friday.
Thomas College of Waterville also advanced with a 9-3 victory over Elms.
Dennis Graham doubled and drove in a run for the Eagles and Tom Crews doubled and singled with a run scored.
Lauck Blake had two singles for Castleton and Kyle Brooks had a double and an RBI.
In the late game, freshman Andrew Martin pitched eight innings of four-hit, two-run ball, striking out 15, as the third-seeded Terriers beat the No. 2 Blazers.
Thomas scored four runs in the sixth inning to build a 6-0 lead. Jared Fieldsend rapped a two-run double to highlight the rally.
Mike Chamard led Thomas with three singles and two RBIs, while Fieldsend also singled with an RBI. Scott Geel doubled and singled and Scott Nickerson singled twice.
Hector Roche paced Elms with a double, a single and two RBIs.

At Waterville, Carter Butland allowed one run through eight innings to lead Bowdoin College to victory over Colby College.
Reid Auger hit a two-run single in the seventh to give Bowdoin the lead. K.J. Kozens had an RBI single to tie it in the seventh.
Ken Kaufman hit his first collegiate home run in the sixth inning to pace Colby.

At Lewiston, DH Bob Patton’s two-run double highlighted an eight-run first inning by the Bobcats.
The Panthers closed to within 9-7, but Bates’ three-run fifth helped secure the win.
Tom Beaton posted three singles and three runs scored for the Bobcats, and Rich Velotta added a double and a single. Brian Mahoney’s single was his 48th hit, tying his own single-season school record.
Mark Shimrock topped the Panthers with a double, two singles and two RBIs.

Colby sweeps UMPI
At Waterville, Brittany Tasi and Alyssa Crowell didn’t allow an earned run as Colby College swept UMaine-Presque Isle 6-2 and 10-1.
In the first game, Carlie Minichino doubled in two runs while Alex Essman knocked an RBI single to power Colby. Essman later doubled while Mollie Puskar tripled.
In the second game, Crowell pitched a five-inning one-hitter as Colby earned the sweep.
Essman blasted a three-run homer for the Mules in the first inning.
