Former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell of Maine (photo) has made Time magazine’s list of the “World’s 100 Most Influential People.” The annual list profiles what Time says are men and women “whose power, talent or moral example has made a significant difference in the world.” A Waterville native, Mitchell served in the U.S. Senate from 1980 to 1995. He has chaired peace negotiations in Northern Ireland and conducted a probe into allegations of substance abuse in Major League Baseball.
