PITTSFIELD – Through an online voting competition, area residents selected “Fairy Tales and Egg-ventures” as the 2008 theme for the Central Maine Egg Festival.
Committee members Tuesday night said this could include Alice in Wonderland, the Wizard of Oz and Harry Potter. “This will be great for the kids,” Marketplace Chairman Dale Goodwin said. “The window painting will also go well with that theme.”
The Egg Festival Committee also voted to seek sponsors for festival T-shirts to offset the cost of having them printed. “We have lost money every year for the last seven or eight years on the T-shirts,” Treasurer Eva Charity said.
By seeking sponsors whose names will appear on the backs of the T-shirts, the costs could be offset.
Committee members also decided to save money by asking for donations for the festival booklets. The group will be printing 4,000 glossy booklets and suggesting that takers donate $1 for each book. Advertisements for the booklet are due by early June and the festival pageant contestants will be canvassing area merchants.
The committee also voted to name Charity, who has been serving as volunteer treasurer for 20 years, as grand marshal of the annual parade. Tuesday was Charity’s last meeting.
Jason Brooks reported that the Sebasticook Valley Community Band has agreed to perform a concert in Hathorn Park during Egg Festival week, which runs July 21-26.
Charity reported that the festival is starting off the year with a good bank balance of just over $9,000. “Last year was great,” commented co-president Steve Craig.
The next committee meeting will be held in June. Anyone seeking more information on the festival events or dates may check the town of Pittsfield’s Web site at www.pittsfield.org.
