BREWER – Take a trip back to the early days of TV when Brewer Youth Theatre presents the musical comedy “My Favorite Year” at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, May 15-17, at Brewer Middle School.
A cast of two-dozen students will tell the story of “Comedy Cavalcade,” a fictional rendering of Sid Caesar’s “Your Show of Shows” from the 1950s.
Jamie Bartol plays Benjy Stone, a junior writer on the show, while Lexi Marceron is K.C. Downing, an assistant producer and the object of Benjy’s affection. Anthony Severance plays King Kaiser, the host of the Comedy Cavalcade, while Erika Cote, Matt McLaughlin and Ian MacLeod are featured as writers with Kyle Holyoke as the producer.
John Williams portrays Alan Swann, an actor in 1940s adventure films. Benjy’s mother Belle, played by Jewels Watson, invites Alan and Benjy to dinner in her Brooklyn apartment, where her husband, former bantamweight boxer Rookie Carroca, is played by Taylor Tremble, and Morty and Sadie Kronsky are played by Matt Adams and Kate Weigel. The cast also includes Tess McLaughlin, Rachel Sibley, Jillian McNally, Angela Patterson, Erin Mills, Kristen Huff, Brianna Philbrick, Paul Holyoke, Rachel Caron, Kaileigh Tremble, Alek Sayers and MacKenzie Smith.
“My Favorite Year” was written by Joseph Dougherty with songs by Broadway veterans Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.
Rich Kimball directs the Brewer Youth Theatre production, with musical direction by Clayton W. Smith, set design by Jamie Bartol and costume supervision by Lexi Marceron.
Admission is $6, $3 students and seniors. “My Favorite Year” includes some mature language and adult situations and may not be suitable for younger audiences. Call 989-8640 for information.
