‘Later Life’ coming to Winterport stage

WINTERPORT – Winterport Open Stage will present “Later Life” by playwright A.R. Gurney at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 9-10 and 16-17 and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at Wagner Middle School Auditorium, Mountainview Drive.

“Later Life” is a story of love and second chances. At the center of the story is Austin, who has spent his entire life convinced that something terrible is bound to happen to him.

One night, at a party overlooking Boston harbor, he rekindles a romance with Ruth whom he met 30 years earlier. The couple comically and sometimes painfully rediscovers each other. A bevy of free-spirited party guests interrupt their “reunion” throughout the evening, reminding us of the infinite possibilities that life or later life holds.

“The characters are incredibly rich and the script is masterfully written,” said director Jeri Misler. “It is a joy to work with the actors on the nuances of the characters and the depth of their stories. I think this play will really appeal to our audience members, many of whom will relate to the characters who are making life choices filled with promise and regret.”

Players in “Later Life” are Stephen Estey of Newburgh, Kathryn Ravenscraft and Steven Douglas of Bangor; Erica Farrar and Jim Tatgenhorst of Winterport; and Elisabeth Dean of Hampden.

Tickets are $8 adults, $6 seniors and students, at the door or at Molly’s in Winterport, Schacht’s True Value Hardware in Hampden and Rebecca’s in Bangor. For information, contact Jeri Misler, 223-0917 or www.WinterportOpenStage.com.
