Legislator to run for re-election

PITTSFIELD – Rep. Stacey Allen Fitts, a two-term Republican legislator, announced that he will seek re-election in House District 29, which includes Pittsfield, Detroit and Clinton.

Fitts serves on the Legislature’s Utilities and Energy Committee, the Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee, and the Joint Rules Committee. In the recently adjourned 123rd Legislature, he also served as ranking member of the Joint Select Committee on Maine’s Future Prosperity, which concluded its work with a series of unanimous recommendations that he said he hopes will help guide future legislatures.

As a member of the Governor’s Wind Power Task Force, Fitts helped draft the panel’s recommendations as well as legislative changes in wind power siting and permitting.

Fitts said he has worked to identify and create legislative solutions to Maine’s short- and long-term energy needs. “The fact that our energy costs are significantly higher than the national average is a roadblock to Maine businesses achieving success in this economy,” he said.

He also said he is committed to bringing Maine’s health insurance regulations in line with those of states where insurance is more affordable. “Maine is one of the healthiest states in the nation, but our insurance costs are out of reach for many families,” he said. “Market reform is the only way to reverse this. Dirigo Choice is not the answer.”

Fitts, 45, is an engineering graduate of Maine Maritime Academy and a lifelong resident of Pittsfield, where he lives with his wife of 23 years, Tina. He works as a consultant there for an engineering and environmental consulting firm that specializes in renewable energy. The Fittses have two sons.
