Maine State Ferry rates to rise June 1

ISLESBORO – Island living is about to get a bit more expensive in Maine.

The Maine State Ferry Service is planning to raise rates effective June 1 to offset the rising cost of diesel fuel.

Ferry Service Manager Jim MacLeod said rate hikes will average 12.5 percent and apply to all state-run ferries, which serve Swans Island, Vinalhaven, North Haven, Frenchboro, Islesboro and Matinicus islands.

As an example, a round-trip adult ticket to Vinalhaven, North Haven and Islesboro will increase from $14.50 to $16.
