Kasia wants a family to help her through her teen years and into her adult life. Born in 1991, she is an active teen who enjoys going to the mall, listening to music and hanging with her friends. Kasia also likes to ski and says she goes fast down the mountains and doesn’t mind if it is really cold. She enjoys bicycle rides, hikes and camping trips. She likes to play soccer and swim, too.
Kasia does well in school, but it’s not her favorite place to be. The best parts of her school day are when she can see her friends. She also has an architecture class that she likes in which she has been designing a house with blueprints and drawings. The class has inspired her to consider being an architect when she grows up. Kasia also is looking into a job for herself through school. She says she wants to get some experience so she has a better understanding of what working is all about.
She was born in Poland and moved to the United States when she was 3. She has a difficult time with trusting relationships, but is working at understanding why. People close to her describe her as funny, sarcastic and easygoing. The best family for Kasia would be one that offers structure, predictability and nurturing. Kasia has a hard time accepting love, so a patient family who won’t give up would be important as well. An adoption subsidy may be available to the most appropriate family.
Kasia is one of 147 children in the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services who are seeking an adoptive family. Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
