Members of Belfast Garden Club are as busy as they can be, and if you can assist them, they would be most grateful.
Pat Felton wrote that “right now, we are digging up and potting up plants everywhere there is a need to divide and thin,” in preparation for their annual Green Thumb Plant Sale, 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Boathouse off Commercial Street.
“The Club prefers to have plants potted with sufficient time to know they are in healthy condition for the sale,” Felton wrote, so let Robin Kruger know if you have healthy plants to donate by calling her at 338-2794.
Felton reports this is “the third annual year of Open Garden Days,” which she describes as “an entire season of private and public gardens, open to the public, each Friday.”
Coordinated by club member Martha Block, from May 9 through September, Felton said, “a different garden is available for viewing.”
For this opportunity, you are encouraged to make a “small donation.”
The club also maintains 10 public sites throughout the city, and for the second year in a row, has received funds through the Golden Rule Foundation “to assist with a special project,” Felton wrote.
This year, Club members “will be working on the grounds around the public restrooms at the waterfront.
“Last year,” she said, “the dwarf conifer garden and hardscape at Post Office Square” was done, and in May, you will “see it all abloom with the pink tulips supporting breast cancer awareness.”
Felton reports the BGC “works hard at reaching out to the entire community and involving everyone,” and that “anyone may participate in any activity without being a member.”
“It is a fun group to be around,” she added.
