Shiretowners squeeze out win

HOULTON – Hunter Caron and Parker Brown laid down suicide squeeze bunts in the sixth inning as Houlton rallied to a 6-4 high school baseball win over Penobscot Valley.

Brown added a pair of singles while Parker Gervais knocked an RBI double for the Shires.

Nevin Jipson and Aaron Saucier each hit an RBI single for Penobscot Valley of Howland.

At Madawaska, Ethan Welch hit two triples and a single to help lift Madawaska over Washburn.

Chad Bechard had three singles and three RBIs for the Owls. Jeff Cyr had two singles and two RBIs and Andrew Deschaine added an RBI triple.

Travis Conley hit a two-run double to lead Washburn and Tyler Farley single twice and knocked in a run.

Ashland 14, Wisdom 1

At St. Agatha, Jeremy Tarr and Jake Paradis combined to allow one run on one hit to lift Ashland over Wisdom.

Nick Gimbel singled three times to pace the Hornets. Jeremy Tarr hit an RBI single and Lucas Belanger drove in two runs.

Wisdom’s Eric Bernier stole two bases and scored on a Dustin Guerette single in the fourth inning.

Fort Kent 21, Van Buren 6

At Van Buren, Joe Soucy hit four singles and a double and drove in six runs to lift Fort Kent over Van Buren.

Thomas Levesque tripled, singled and drove in three runs for Fort Kent. Jared Soucy added a double, single and three RBIs. Nick Michaud hit a double and a two singles.

Alex Martin paced Van Buren with a double and a single. Patrick Vaillancourt and Derrick Rossignol doubled.

At Bangor, the Vikings’ Nate Adams came on in relief in the first inning and shut out the Patriots the rest of the way to propel Searsport to victory.

Adams shut the door after Bangor Christian scored five times in the first inning. He scattered five hits, struck out 14 and walked four.

Bob Wilson’s three-run triple and Tom Cameron’s two-run home run highlighted the Vikings’ six-run fourth inning.

Tyler Alexander stroked a two-run single and Mike Smith added an RBI single to pace Bangor Christian.

At Jonesport, Harry Beal had three singles to knock in two runs as Jonesport-Beals earned its first win of the spring.

Zach Smith contributed an RBI single for the Royals.

Jacob Stevens had two singles and Christian Hooper an RBI single for the Machias Bulldogs.

At Blue Hill, Caleb Hale (3-0) pitched a five-inning one-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk to lead the George Stevens Academy Eagles past Deer Isle-Stonington.

Peter Dickinson hit an RBI triple in the first, Nick Saunders added an RBI double in the second, and Jesse Ingraham hit an RBI single in the third to lead the GSA offense.

Eben Powers’ single in the first inning was the lone hit for the Mariners.

At East Sullivan, Corey Smith had a double, two singles and scored twice to lead Narraguagus of Harrington past Sumner.

Jeremy Look in a two-run single in the fourth inning for the Knights and Gavin Endre added an RBI single in the fourth.

Mickey Manning paced Sumner by hitting three singles and a double. Steve Brenton had three singles and scored two runs and Joe Simmons added two singles and an RBI.

At St. Agatha, Ashland scored a combined 23 runs in the second and third innings to beat Wisdom.

Andrea Mayo homered in the first inning for Ashland. Whitney Flint hit a three-run double and Mindy Chasse added a double and a single.

Crystal McDonald and Chelsea Paradis singled for Wisdom.

At Madawaska, Kallie Pelletier pitched a two-hit shutout allowing two walks and striking out four as Madawaska defeated Washburn.

Pelletier and Sara Schlicher each had three singles and a double with three RBIs for Madawaska. Steph Nadeau added three singles and an RBI.

Washburn’s Kelsee McLaughlin and Rebecca Campbell singled.

At Van Buren, the visiting Warriors took advantage of four Van Buren walks to plate seven runs in the top of the seventh and earn their first win.

Kelly Charette slapped a two-run single and Elizabeth Morneault an RBI single in the inning for Fort Kent. Van Buren had scored six times in the bottom of the sixth to tie it at 9.

Lindsay LaJoie paced the Crusaders with three singles and two RBIs while Angel Richard singled twice to knock in two runs.

At Houlton, Casey McCloskey allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out 16 to lead Penobscot Valley of Howland to the narrow win over Houlton.

Kirsti Dawson drove in a run on a ground out for the Howlers and Molly Thompson scored on a wild pitch. Ariel Vanadestine and Kristina Hallett singled.

Brittany Guiod tripled to drive in Vanessa Sanderson in the seventh inning for Houlton. Nikki Eastman and Lainey Herring singled.

Houlton’s Eastman recorded eight strikeouts.

At Jonesport, BreAnna Beal knocked a three-run double while Brittany Alley tripled and recorded 13 strikeouts in the circle as Jonesport-Beals prevailed.

Whitney Norton added two singles for the winners.

Julie Corbett had two singles and an RBI for Machias and Anna Thompson two singles.

Kayla Higgins slammed a pair of three-run homers, one in the second and one in the fourth for the Tigers. Lonna Sargent chipped in an RBI single.

At Bangor, Jillian French spun a five-inning no-hitter, walking nobody, hitting one batter and striking out 15 as Bangor Christian avenged an earlier loss to Searsport.

Jana Philbrick singled in a run and scored another while Christin Pelletier knocked four singles, drove in three runs and scored two more for the Patriots.
