Winter lifts Orono by Stearns

MILLINOCKET – Max Winter scattered six hits to lead the Orono Red Riots to a 5-2 high school baseball victory over the Stearns Minutemen Monday.

Winter struck out 11 and walked only two.

Jon Doughty hit a two-run single in the second inning to lead Orono. Kirk Francis had two singles and scored a run and Brandon LeVasseur added a single and stole a base.

Cory Barnett had two singles and a double with an RBI to lead Stearns. Kurt Hamilton added a single, two stolen bases and a run scored.

At Houlton, Hunter Caron and Parker Brown laid down suicide squeeze bunts as the Shiretowners scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to rally.

Nevin Jipson and Aaron Saucier each hit an RBI single for Penobscot Valley of Howland.

At Bangor, the Vikings’ Nate Adams came on in relief in the first inning and shut out the Patriots the rest of the way.

Adams shut the door after Bangor Christian scored five times in the first inning. He scattered five hits, struck out 14 and walked four.

Tyler Alexander stroked a two-run single and Mike Smith added an RBI single to pace Bangor Christian.

At Thorndike, Ethan Jean hit a three-run home run in the first inning and added a single to help lead Mount View.

Derek Keller doubled and singled for the Mustangs and Matt Abbott had a single and two RBIs.

MCI’s Nick Miller hit three singles and drove in a run. Ethan West had two singles with an RBI and Trevor Rowe tripled and singled.

At Guilford, Gavin Cote hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to preserve the win.

Ethan Woodman singled three times for the Tigers and A.J. McGowan added a two-run single in the fifth inning.

Toby Cleaves had two singles and two RBIs to lead the Pirates. Brian Russell added a single and a run scored.

At Lincoln, Jake Smith hit three doubles and drove in five runs to lift Mattanawcook.

Josh Murchison had four singles and three RBIs for the Lynx. Lance Bernier added two singles and two RBIs and Tyler White singled twice and drove in a run.

D.J. Clukey hit an RBI single in the fourth inning and Wade Witham had a sacrifice fly.

Jana Philbrick singled in a run and scored another while Christin Pelletier knocked four singles, drove in three runs and scored two more.

Nicastro went the first four innings, allowing only Bekah Elliott’s single in the first while striking out 11 before giving way to Trask, who fanned five.

Bree Hanscom collected three hits, singled twice, tripled and knocked in two runs while sister Brooke had a double, single and an RBI.

Melissa West added an RBI double for the Lynx.

At Skowhegan, sophomore Sam Bedore fired a three-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking for Bangor.

Eliza Estabrook smacked a two-run double and Jeri Cosgrove an RBI single to key a three-run first inning for the Rams. Amy Hackett chipped in with a double and a single.

Liz Noddin doubled for the Skowhegan Indians.

Megan Soden and Lauren Green each hit a single for the Piscataquis Pirates of Guilford.
