Former Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell of Maine is the 2008 recipient of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Medal for leadership and service, the Eisenhower Fellowships announced Tuesday. The organization’s chairman, retired general and former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, will present the award at the annual board of trustees dinner in Philadelphia on Thursday.

The Eisenhower Medal is awarded annually to a business leader, statesman or other public figure who has achieved widely recognized advances toward former President Eisenhower’s vision of peace and productivity through person-to-person international dialogue.
