BANGOR – A 33-year-old Rangeley man could face up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.

Zachary Allen Winship entered his plea Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor and has been detained while he awaits sentencing.

According to court documents, Winship’s troubles with the law began in 2006 at the Philadelphia airport when customs inspectors found images of child erotica on his laptop computer while he and his wife were returning from a vacation in Jamaica.

Although those images did not warrant prosecution, Winship told his wife that there was similar material on their home computer. His wife quickly dismantled the home computer and turned it over to her lawyer, who in turn passed it along to law enforcement. The computer was found to contain child pornography, including still images and videos.
