Officers killed in line of duty honored today

AUGUSTA – Flags will be at half-staff today in honor of the 82 Maine law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

The officers will be honored at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at the 20th annual observance of the Maine Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial on State Street in Augusta. The ceremony takes place at the memorial, adjacent to the State House.

No new names have been added to the granite monument in the past year, according to a press release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland. The Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police have the most names on the memorial. There have been 14 Maine wardens and 10 troopers killed in the line of duty.
