HOWLAND – Casey McCloskey allowed just one run and one hit while striking out 11 and walking one while Molly Thompson’s RBI double in the sixth supplied the game-winning run as Penobscot Valley earned a pivotal Class C softball victory, 2-1, over Orono Wednesday.

Molly Woodward scored on a passed ball in the second for Penobscot Valley.

Chloe Paul singled for the Red Riots. Sara Pavento surrendered two runs on four hits.

At Deer Isle, Jillian French pitched a one-hitter, striking out 17 and hitting a batter, to spearhead the Patriots.

Bekah Smith and Whitney Holmes each singled and scored a run for Bangor Christian. Chelsea Brasslett had a run-producing fielder’s choice.

Goldie Garcia hit a fourth-inning single for Deer Isle-Stonington’s only hit behind loser Anika Powers, who scattered four hits and struck out four.

At Farmington, Amanda Ryan spun a six-hitter, striking out five and walking none while the Witches played error-free ball behind her in earning their ninth victory.

Allie DeFilipp had two singles and two RBIs and Leah Jackson three singles and an RBI for Brewer. Allie’s sister Dominique chipped in with a pair of singles.

Kelly Yardley and Amelia Allen both singled twice for the Mt. Blue Cougars.

At Oakland, Lacey Littlefield and Michelle Wells combined on a three-hitter, striking out 11 as Hampden earned its eighth shutout of the spring.

Eva Shannon laced a two-run double in the fourth while Kate Plowmann hit an RBI single and Kasey Belcher a fielders choice RBI in the seventh for the Broncos.

Julianna Beckett doubled and singled for Messalonskee.

Nicole Stairs tripled and singled to knock in a run, and Amy Hackett had an RBI double and RBI single for the Rams.

Megan Lovely had two singles for Lawrence.

Lyford tallied a triple, a double, a single and six RBIs for the Patriots. Kayla Webb had two singles with two RBIs while Britnee Genther added a double and a single.

Emily Knights hit a single for Piscataquis.

At East Millinocket, Becca Leavitt hit two doubles, three singles and drove in five runs to power Stearns of Millinocket.

Angela Levesque pitched a one-hitter with no earned runs for the win.

Kristine Tracy tallied two singles, a double and three RBIs for Stearns while Mikaela Rosebush added two singles, a double and an RBI.

Ashley Grant hit a bunt single for Schenck.

At Farmington, Prentiss Swett had a pair of RBI singles and Mike Kotredes added a two-run double to lead Brewer past Mt. Blue.

Caleb Smith knocked an RBI triple for the Witches, and Chase Daniels plated a run with a double. Eric White doubled and singled to drive in another run.

Bobby Dudley had two singles and Alex Wallace a double for Mt. Blue.

At Dexter, Ethan Woodman’s two-run double in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Tigers past the Lee Academy Pandas.

A.J. McGowan laced a two-run homer while Rick Stewart tripled and singled to drive in three runs for Dexter. Gavin Cote hit four singles and drove in four runs.

Brandon Crocker hit a two-run double and Ryan Beers a solo homer and RBI single for Lee. A.J. Harris doubled and singled to knock in three runs.

At Rockland, Cody Raven fashioned a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks to propel the Mustangs to victory.

Raven helped his own cause with a double and two singles. Keil Lemieux singled twice for Mount View of Thorndike and Ian Campbell hit a two-run home run.

Dave Searle’s single with one out in the fifth was Rockland’s only hit of the game.
