Camden Select Board appoints new fire chief

CAMDEN – The Select Board appointed Chris Farley of Orland as fire chief to succeed Steve Gibbons, who plans to retire June 30.

A 20-year veteran of firefighting, Farley, 44, has served as fire chief for three years each in Orland and the town of Mount Desert.

Farley told the Select Board that he has family ties to the Camden area. His mother is from Camden and his father from Rockport.

Farley said he grew up in New Hampshire and went to St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., where he studied criminal justice.

He was selected Tuesday from a pool of 24 applicants, according to the Select Board.

Farley will start his new job July 1.
