Hampden woman hurt in Brewer accident

A Hampden woman was injured Friday afternoon when she pulled her car out in front of a pickup truck on Parkway South in Brewer.

Brewer police Sgt. Richard Smith said Blossome Fenlason, 84, was attempting to turn left onto Parkway South from the driveway of the Brewer Rehab and Living Center.

A driver traveling toward Wilson Street on Parkway South pulled to the far right of the wide travel lane and stopped to let Fenlason make the turn. But when she pulled out, her 2001 Ford Taurus sedan was struck broadside by a 2006 GMC King Cab pickup truck driven by Scott Mayhew, 41, of Carmel, who passed the stopped car while remaining in the travel lane. Smith said that Mayhew had the right of way.

Mayhew’s pickup struck Fenlason’s car on the driver’s side, demolishing it, Smith said. The pickup also received major damage. Neither Mayhew nor any of his three passengers were injured. Fenlason was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Information about her condition was not available Friday evening. (Meg Haskell, BDN)
