DEXTER – A fully loaded logging truck ended up on its side in a ditch Friday morning after it ran over the front of a Ford Ranger pickup truck.
No one was seriously injured, but both drivers suffered a few scrapes and abrasions on their heads, said Dexter police Sgt. Jim Emerson.
Both refused medical treatment at the scene from Mayo Ambulance.
Clarence Arno, 47, of Charleston was headed south on Route 7 near the center of town and was looking for a driveway on the left side of the road around 9:30 a.m., according to Emerson.
Arno slowed down and the tractor-trailer driver, James Oliver, 41, of Corinna, told police he thought that Arno was turning right, so he started to go around the pickup.
Arno then saw the driveway he was looking for and turned left, Emerson said. Oliver almost was able to veer the tractor-trailer around the pickup, but ended up running over the front of it, causing the big rig to roll onto its side.
The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division was called in to examine the tractor-trailer, but found no excess weight or other violations, Emerson said.
Once the logging truck, which had an estimated $8,000 in damage, was pulled upright, it was started and backed into a vacant lot across the street until it could be towed away.
The truck belongs to Robin A. Crawford & Son trucking company of Lincoln.
The pickup was a total loss, Emerson said.
