AUGUSTA – The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety will launch a two-week seat belt enforcement effort beginning Monday, May 19, and running through Sunday, June 1.

The “Click It or Ticket” campaign is part of a national effort sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and marks the fifth consecutive year that Maine police agencies have teamed to convince motorists to use their seat belts. The campaign also coincides with many police departments’ traffic safety efforts surrounding Memorial Day.

Seventy-two Maine police departments are taking part in the campaign, including the Bangor, Rockland, Ellsworth and Houlton departments and the Penobscot, Piscataquis and Hancock counties’ sheriff’s departments.
