Belfast energy group targets hot water use

BELFAST – The Belfast Energy & Climate Committee is challenging residents to save energy by reducing their use of hot water on Sunday, May 25.

Using hot water during showering and bathing consumes significant energy and produces greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change. Those who decide to participate in the challenge are asked to notify the committee their plans and other creative ways of reducing hot water consumption, by e-mailing energychallenge@belfastclimate.org or by sending a postcard or letter to BECC, City Hall, Belfast.

The winner of a drawing from the participants will be awarded an energy-saving “low flow showerhead, with shut-off valve,” donated by The Green Store of downtown Belfast, which provides products and information for reducing energy costs.
