Restore quiet to Freedom

My family moved to Freedom because it was a nice small rural town. My son and his wife wanted to raise their family here instead of in New Jersey, where my husband and I grew up. My husband’s retirement dream was to own a home in the country and watch our grandsons grow up next door. He lived 81/2 years of his dream and they were the happiest of his life. The only sounds we heard in our old neighborhood were firetrucks and motorcycles on the street, and helicopters landing on a nearby football field.

Here I enjoy sitting on my deck in peace and quiet, listening to the birds and watching the wildlife.

My husband is gone now and his dream has become my nightmare because a company sweet-talked the town into approving a major industrial wind turbine project in our neighborhood. We paid for our home with our life’s savings, and it was worth every penny. But it will be worth nothing if the noise of wind turbines takes the place of the street noise we left behind.

Please, do your homework, read newspapers, go online and educate yourself about what these turbines really are like. This isn’t the sweet deal for the town the company promised. If you want to protect the peace and quiet of Freedom, vote on June 10 to reinstate the commercial development review ordinance.
