Smith sparks Eagles by Bucks

BUCKSPORT – Ashley Smith belted a solo home run with one out in the eighth inning Tuesday to lift Ellsworth to a 7-6 high school softball victory over Bucksport as the Eagles avenged an earlier loss to the Golden Bucks.

Smith, who also hit an RBI single, spread out six hits in the circle and struck out eight. Tasha Manning hit an RBI double and Lauren Poor tripled for Ellsworth.

Losing pitcher Keely Sullivan sparked the Golden Bucks with a solo homer and a run-scoring double. She also struck out 10 in going the distance.

At Orono, Sabrina Vivian hit three singles and knocked in two runs to lead George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill by Orono.

Stephi Davis had two doubles and two RBIs while Jessica Keith added three singles for the Eagles.

Chelsea Paul had three singles for Orono while Chloe Paul singled twice.

At Harrington, Sam Baker and Natasha Boada tallied two singles and two RBIs each to pace Narraguagus by Machias.

At Stacyville, Jasmine Pelletier drove in two runs with a triple to lead Katahdin past Schenck of East Millinocket.

Amy Hackett doubled and singled with an RBI for Bangor. Jeri Cosgrove had two singles with an RBI while Eliza Estabrook had a two-run single for the Rams.
