BARING – Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge Manager Bill Kolodnicki encourages the public to visit Bearce Lake and Vose Pond to take advantage of the unique opportunities they offer for recreational fishing.
The gravel access road to Bearce Lake is located just south of the Baring-Meddybemps town line on the east side of Route 191. Vose Pond is accessible by motor vehicle from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset through the Goodall Heath Road off of the Charlotte Road in Calais, across from the refuge’s headquarters road.
Bearce Lake is entirely within the Baring Wilderness Area. As such, no motorized or mechanized equipment is permitted, including gas- and electric-powered outboard motors. The Baring Wilderness Area was established in January 1975 and includes 4,680 acres.
