Racehorse shooting probed in Limington

LIMINGTON – Officials say a $4,000 race horse had to be put to its death after being shot on a farm by an unknown assailant.

The York County Sheriff’s Department and the Maine Warden Service sent investigators to a farm Wednesday where horse owner Peggy Tardif told WCSH-TV she heard a shot at about 4 p.m. Tuesday while cleaning out stalls.

But she said it wasn’t until an hour later, while bringing food to the horse, that she discovered the animal had been shot. The horse’s shoulder was shattered, and a veterinarian had to put the animal down.

Sheriff’s officials are searching for clues. Tardif is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the person responsible.
