Bucksport High School

Principal Robert Doar has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2008 at Bucksport High School. Graduation ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the Ralph Jewett Gymnasium, Bucksport High School.

Meg LaLonde, daughter of Melissa and John Paul LaLonde, has been named valedictorian. She plans to attend Michigan State University.

During her four years at BHS, she has captained the varsity soccer and basketball teams and served as math team president and student council treasurer. She played trumpet in the band and pep band and has been a member of the drama club, National Honor Society and outing club.

LaLonde attended Dirigo Girls’ State last summer and this year sat in as the student representative on the school board. She received the Maine Principal Association Principal’s Award and was chosen as a member of the McDonald’s Maine Academic All-Star Basketball Team. She has volunteered as a youth soccer coach, at a youth basketball camp, and in a first-grade classroom.

Monique Goodin, daughter of Bruce and Lynn Goodin, has been named salutatorian. She will attend Colby College in Waterville to study art history.

She has participated in the civil rights team, volleyball team, National Honor Society, yearbook committee, outing club, drama club and Dirigo Girls’ State. She is involved with the BHS art program and painted murals for the high school and community.

Goodin worked with an artist through the LINC program and also will attend a Haystack Mountain School of Crafts program in Deer Isle.

Nathan Pukay, son of Julie and Randy Pukay, has been named first honor essayist. He will attend the University of Maine at Orono to study computer science.

He was a member of the National Honor Society as well as a Boys’ State delegate. He was a member of the band and the golf team.

Coty Byron Wardwell, son of Joyce Trefethen, has been named second honor essayist. He will attend Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

He has been class treasurer, involved in band, yearbook, drama and the outing club. He has participated in the jazz band, jazz choir, Envirothon, student council and the Bucksport Community Theatre. He attended Dirigo Boys’ State in 2007, was chosen as BHS student of the month for February 2008, and has served as president of the BHS National Honor Society during his senior year.
