Schools Houlton High School

Marty Bouchard, principal of Houlton High School, has announced honor parts for the Class of 2008.

Jennifer E. Beasley, daughter of Dr. Joe and Susan Beasley, has been named valedictorian. She will attend the University of Maine to study music education with a vocal concentration.

Beasley is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Principal’s Award honor student. She has won prizes for the science fair, has been named to the All-Aroostook Band and Chorus and All-State Chorus. She is a member of the symphonic band, jazz choir, jazz band, chamber choir and show choir. She directs a flute ensemble and is section leader in the high school band.

Beasley has participated in school musicals, been a member of McGill’s Community Band since the sixth grade and received the Outstanding Female Vocalist award at the State Show Choir competition. She plays the flute, piccolo, saxophone and piano. She also is involved in community service through her church youth group.

Casey D. Faulkingham, daughter of Mark and Leanne Faulkingham, has been named salutatorian. She will attend the Honors College at the University of Maine at Orono to study biology with a focus on premedicine.

She is president of the National Honor Society, a Principal’s Award honor student and the Houlton High School Maine Principals’ Award recipient. She received the Principal’s Leadership Award, the Women in Engineering Award, and was named student of the month for excellence in English.

Faulkingham was a Dirigo Girls’ State delegate and attended the National Federation of High Schools Leadership Conference in Indianapolis. She was a delegate to the Maine Youth Leadership Program, has served on the student council executive committee for four years, served as vice president her senior year, junior class president and sophomore class vice president. She has been a jazz band member for four years, section leader for two years and member of the percussion ensemble. She is a four-year member of the varsity softball team.

Parker D. Brown, son of David Brown and Julie Dunn, has been named first honor essayist. He will attend the University of Maine at Orono to study informational systems engineering.

He is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Principal’s Award honor student. He is a member of the student council executive committee and was a delegate to Dirigo Boys’ State. He is a member of chorus, show choir, chamber choir and was an All-Aroostook member.

Brown played varsity soccer for four years, played varsity basketball and varsity baseball. He has served as captain of the basketball and soccer teams. He received the Shaw Memorial Soccer Trophy and was a member of the All-Academic, All-Conference basketball and soccer teams. He has served as a basketball camp councilor, peer tutor and choral helper. He was also a member of Jobs for Maine Graduates.

Zachary D. Chase, son of Peter and Kathy Chase, has been named second honor essayist. He will attend the University of Maine at Orono to study mechanical engineering.

He is a member of the National Honor Society and a Principal’s Award honors student. He is the recipient of the Ervin Stone Algebra Award. He has served as a math tutor to fellow students for three years.

Chase is a four-year member of the Houlton-Hodgdon Blackhawks hockey team and served as captain his senior year. He is a member of the Senior All-Star Team, the Academic All-Stars and was named first team defenseman. He also has been a member of the varsity golf team, a member of the Jobs for Maine Graduates, and volunteered at the Millar Civic Center.
