Tigers’ rally downs Red Riots

DEXTER – Dexter rallied from a five-run deficit after four innings to pull out a 6-5 victory over Orono in high school baseball action Friday.

Ethan Woodman scored the winning run in the seventh off an A.J. McGowan single.

Woodman hit a two-run single in the fifth inning for Dexter. Rick Stewart singled twice and McGowan added a double.

Anthony Cyr hit a single and an RBI double to lead Orono. Brandon Levasseur singled twice and Jake Stoddard hit an RBI single.

At Fairfield, Greg Higgins allowed no earned runs on three hits and one walk while striking out eight to lead the Witches over the Bulldogs.

Jon Thoms had two singles and two RBIs for the Witches. Chase Daniels hit a two-run double, and Eric White hit two singles and drove in a run.

Ryan Manzo led Lawrence with an RBI single.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Andrew Hodge hit a double and a third-inning three-run home run to help power the Eagles.

Brad Folmer had a double and two singles with an RBI for Ellsworth. Adam Kaspala singled twice and drove in two runs, and Pat Kelley added two singles and an RBI.

Wade Witham paced the Ponies with two singles and two RBIs, and Josiah Richard hit an RBI single.

At Lincoln, senior Peter Coggins allowed no earned runs on one hit and one walk while striking out seven to pace Mattanawcook.

Josh Murchison singled and drove in three runs for the Lynx. Lance Bernier had two singles, two RBIs and two runs. Tyler Tash singled twice and drove in a run and Adam Laird added a two-run single.

Scott Kelley hit an infield RBI single in the third inning for Central’s only hit.

John Bapst 15, Hermon 5

At Husson College in Bangor, Kyle Gallant doubled and singled to knock in two runs while stealing three bases as John Bapst downed Hermon.

Charlie Merritt and Nick Smith had two doubles and three RBIs apiece, while Smith stole two bases for the Crusaders. Jon Gagnon added a triple and a single.

Derek Helms had two doubles and a single and Tim Kenerson an RBI single for Hermon.

At Howland, Anthony Batchelder allowed four hits in five innings while striking out five batters and walking none to lead the Penobscot Valley Howlers past Penquis of Milo.

Joe Gilley had two doubles and two RBIs for the Howlers while Batchelder had two doubles and one RBI. Kyle Dickey hit a three-run double.

Brad Brown hit an RBI double for the Patriots.

At Lee, Brandon London smacked a three-run double while Richie Tompkins drove in three runs with two doubles to lead Piscataquis of Guilford to the win.

Bryan Russell added two singles for the Pirates.

A.J. Harris knocked an RBI double for Lee Academy. Dean MacDonald singled twice and Lee Cropley had a double and a single.

At Fairfield, Meghan McLain hit a three-run home run in the first inning to help push Brewer past Lawrence.

Leah Jackson tripled and singled with two RBIs for the Witches. Amanda Ryan added two singles and an RBI.

Lawrence’s Megan Lovely hit a two-run homer in the first inning and added two singles.

Mattanawcook 10, Central 1

At Lincoln, Hillary Pelkey hit two singles and drove in two runs to help push Mattanawcook Academy past Central of Corinth.

Deni Nicastro had two singles and an RBI for the Lynx and Bree Hanscom added an RBI double.

Kaitelynn Stymiest led Central with an RBI double.

At Dexter, Sonya Forst and Vanessa Leture scored on back-to-back plays in the fifth inning give Orono the win over Dexter.

Orono’s Amanda York drove in Leture on a single and Leture had three singles.

Michelle Chapman singled and recorded nine strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter for Dexter. Six other hitters had a single apiece.

Hermon 3, John Bapst 0

At Husson College in Bangor, Hermon’s Debbie Colpitts outdueled John Bapst’s Devan Richard as the Hawks earned a crucial Class B victory.

Colpitts struck out nine and walked none while giving up just two hits.

Erin Arnold, who drove in a run with a single in the sixth, scored on a wild pitch, along with Amanda Page in the second. Monica Gallant tripled and singled.

Kacy Harvey and Hillary Laferriere each singled for John Bapst. Richard struck out nine and walked three.

At Howland, Julie Theriault’s two-out double in the sixth plated Kirstie Dawson with the winning run.

Dawson had opened the sixth with a double, then the next two batters struck out before Theriault’s hit.

Dawson also had a pair of singles among her three hits, and Casey McCloskey picked up the win, striking out 12 and walking only three.

Erica Lyford tripled and scored on Morgan Royal’s single in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Lyford also scored in the fourth on a passed ball.

At Lee, Aarika Ritchie hit two doubles, a single and scored two runs to help lift Lee Academy over Piscataquis of Guilford.

Kellsey Grass doubled and singled with two RBIs and two runs scored for Lee. Becca Burrill added two singles and two RBIs.

Julia Shaffer had two singles and a double with an RBI for the Pirates.

MCI 2, Camden Hills 1

At Rockport, the Maine Central Institute Huskies of Pittsfield scored two runs in the top of the second inning and made them stand up as rain shortened the game to six innings.

MCI scored five runs and had the bases loaded with no outs in the seventh, but both teams agreed to forego the rest of the inning as rain intensified.

Kristy Huff hit a two-run single and Jordan Kennedy tossed a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts for the Huskies.

Olivia Hannahan hit an RBI single for the Windjammers.
