BELFAST – The Elaine and Tony Tucker garden at 265 High St. will be the featured garden at the Belfast Garden Club’s Open Garden Days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 30.

When Elaine Tucker started her hillside garden in 2000, she says her original theme was “hold the dirt.” Since then, with terracing and daring, she has totally restructured the “three-level blank slate” and checked the erosion. Visitors will be able to see it for themselves this weekend.

Fifteen more garden tours are scheduled this year, all on Fridays. The next tour is Friday, June 6, when Sharron Walsh of 16 Birch Lane, Searsport, opens her newly planted garden overlooking the bay. The final tour is Sept. 19.

The garden club suggests a donation of $3. Funds raised benefit the club’s Belfast Civic Beautification projects. A 10-visit ticket is available for $20 from garden club members and at each tour. A season pass good for all 18 gardens costs $35 and also may be purchased from club members or from chairwoman Martha Block, 338-0085.

For a list of the gardens and directions, look for the Open Garden Days flier in local businesses, the library and the Visitor’s Center or visit belfastgardenclub.org.
