FAA awards $425,204 for Maine initiatives

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration has awarded $425,204 in funding for aviation initiatives in the state of Maine.

The state of Maine will receive $250,000 to fund an aeronautical survey of runway ends at three Maine airports: Millinocket Municipal Airport, Central Maine Airport of Norridgewock, and Greenville Municipal Airport. The survey will evaluate existing runway end obstructions in support of implementation of an approach that makes airports more accessible to pilots by providing vertical guidance to a particular runway end.

In addition, Bethel Regional Airport in Bethel will receive $175,204 for construction of a fuel farm that is intended to help the local airport achieve self-sufficiency.

U.S. Sens. Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins, R-Maine, said in a press release announcing the grant that “Maine’s aviation infrastructure keeps its residents connected with the rest of the country and the world. These FAA funds will help these airports make the necessary upgrades and developments to improve their air travel services and safety.”
